THE RATTRAY SILVER ARROW became the centrepiece of a famous grand archery tournament contested within the parish of Rattray, Perthshire, intermittently between 1612 and 1727.

1783 Curling

CURLING is a Winter sport which originated in Scotland and can be traced back to the Middle Ages. The oldest curling stone dates from 1511 and is in the Stirling Smith Museum. Scottish emigrants took the game to other countries, and curling is particularly popular in Canada.

If the skirl of the bagpipes and booming of drums sets your heart fluttering, head for the Blairgowrie and Rattray Highland Games. Described as ‘ a blend of spectacle and fun’ the games presents a full programme of traditional highland games events as well as activities for all the family, including of course, the Blair v Rattray Tug O'War!

Both Blairgowrie Tennis Club and Rattray Tennis Club celebrated their centenary in 2020.

Alexander (Sandy) Blaikie was born at Dull near Aberfeldy in 1876. The 1891 Census records that, aged 14, he was working as a Telegraph Messenger. By the 1901 Census he was employed as a Rural Postman in the Aberfeldy area.
